I am "older" an MD-PhD student, and I am obsessed with my dog. I started this program at the age of 29 after working in business and hating it for way too long. Then came the husband, and then the fur-child. Oh, the PhD's in Epidemiology. This blog is about the ups and downs of all of the above.

My dog is so excellently trained I swear we meant her not to retrieve that ball
Okay - she's puzzled but interested in your activities and very eager to please. Great potential here.
She needs positive reinforcement for any interest in chasing, mouthing, or picking up the ball. Clicker training may be extremely helpful, though clicker timing requires practice before trying this with the dog (works great on children, but a spouse will do in a pinch).
OR -- She gets the whole retrieving thing. She'll do it about 70% of the time. It's just that I had a treat in my hand during that video. She hasn't learned to associate running away from me to get a ball with receiving a treat yet.
THough yes, clicker training would probably work well for her.
Haha, i enrolled my dog in flyball classes, and there i discovered her disdain for balls. We had to teach her how to hold the ball in her mouth...for all of two seconds. We dropped out of the class.
7 Pearls of Wisdom:
"Yeah, it's fine over here. I've got the blond lady trained to throw the ball now, and she's getting better at going to get it, too."
So cute! What breed is she?
Dr. G -- So true. Haha!
Penelope -- "Lab mix" translation: part pit bull.
She must be related to my Lab. If you throw a ball for him he just gives you a look that says, "You threw it away, you go get it!"
