I have to submit a biosketch with my grant. I had no idea what one was supposed to look like, so I got a sample biosketch from a friend of mine who wrote one of these F30s last year. (I was going to tease her about her ONE non-A grade in Ochem -- it was an A-.... but decided against it.) After reading it I had been wondering:
Do they *really* want me to list out my entire transcript from undergrad? How exactly was that relevant (aside from the sociology major) to an application for a grant that I'm writing 11 years after college graduation.
So I looked it up.
Um, Yes. They really do want that.
For the love of God.
I think I have an old transcript lying around somewhere.....
*As a side note, I wonder if I'm the only applicant ever in the history of the NHLBI to have taken a class entitled: Intensive Study of a Culture: The Kayapo of Central Brazil.
5 Pearls of Wisdom:
Oh Dear God,
So... let's just say for kicks and giggles, I decided to get a PhD because no medical school wants me...
I'd have to get publicly flogged again for what I did from 1982 - 86? I really don't want to go "there" for medical school let alone a PhD.
Maybe the winning PowerBall ticket is home on my dresser...
Good luck finding your transcript! and on your grant request.
AD2B -- I think you could get a PhD.... but seriously you seem to be really into the clinical stuff, so don't write that off. You could always go to PA or nursing school -- much shorter career path, almost as good money, some autonomy if you do NP. One of my committee members has a PhD in nursing, in fact.
But why am I even talking about this with you. You're going to medical school, woman. Stop second guessing yourself!
Yeah, I had to find a freaking transcript for Big State U when I applied for my fellowship.
Then they told me it needed to be a CERTIFIED copy, so I had to call BSU, and whine, and pay them $10 a pop to send them out.
Like my grades in "Jazz" class matter after I've been through med school and residency.
does "Linguistics and Anthropology: dead and dying languages" count? How about "Kinship systems in central Asia?"
I'll have to look into this biosketch business... tomorrow!
I would be tempted to submit a cryptic document that spells out "let it GO people"!
Yet another reason I couldn't do what you are doing...there was waaaayy too much fun and brain cell destruction during my first couple of uni years.
And I am still paying for it! (Literally...tuition in Euro--ouch.)
