Grant

I just found my grant (the F30 to the NHLBI I submitted in April) was scored very (very) well. Hopefully they will have enough money to fund me and I can be funded by that AND the sleep T32 I was just put on. I should find out in the next two months or so about that. Haha.

Now all I have to do is figure out how the heck I'm going to do all those projects!

:-)

Sorry but you can't get both the F30 and T32 funds at the same time. Federal regulations. Your university can supplement your stipend from other sources, if they choose to but not federal $$

D -- That is a valid point, but fortunately not one I have to worry about. I suspect that what will happen is that I will be taken off the T32, but that depends on what they people who allocate funds in my department decide. Neither grant covers my total cost to the university.

Also, you sounded really snarky. Why is that?

Wow!!! Congratulations on your (first!) grant quite possibly getting funded -- that's amazing!

Thanks, everyone!

Hi, did not mean to sound snarky. It probably is my natural state as an academician/researcher. Just trying to let you know what the NIH rules are to encourage you to try to get "other funds" from your university as you will be "saving" them a great deal of $$$ from their coffers when your F30is funded.

D -- You bring up an issue which I am certain my program director does not want me to blog about. As an MSTP student, I am guaranteed full funding for the duration of my program, including tuition, stipend, most fees, health insurance, etc. The MSTP grant covers me for 4 years, but my graduate department is supposed to cover me for the remaining 3-5. Since my graduate program dropped the ball on this last year, I was funded off the MSTP grant / some other funds from my institution for another year. The F30 (if I indeed get it) would fund me for 3 more years, while the T32 is year by year, however neither pay for me completely. In any event, I'm sure the powers that be at my institution are happy that I got the T32, and that I got a promising score on my F30. But, they will still have to find a way to cough up the rest of my stipend/tuition.

Joy!

Thanks for the clarification though. Sometimes snark gets transmitted inadvertently through the typed word. Glad I misunderstood.
