computer

So I just got off the phone with a nice man in the Philippines about the computer. For the $300+ three year warranty that I was required to buy since I bought at the campus bookstore, I am getting a technician to come to my house to install:

1) A new motherboard
2) A new hard drive
3) A new fan

On either Friday or Monday.

It's like I'm getting a whole new computer! In two days!

Craziness.

Normally, I would consider such a warranty to be a rip off. However in this case it appears to have paid off.

Whew!

Here's crossing my fingers to make sure everything works the first time, and that we don't have to repeat this process x10 until I get a functioning machine again.

I rarely buy warranties! But we did on our computer and laptop...it has come in handy!

Nice! I am so glad that you were able to get your money's worth. My husband is always giving speeches about how those warranties are a rip off. :)

NICE. I hope everything works out with the fix!

chances are..if ur mother board has to be "replaced" then your computer is not going to last for too long afterwards, even with a new fan and all. Was it a HP? it happened to me too, got a cheaper Asus ntbook and has lasted for years now. the battery is awesome since the ntbook is tiny.

Anon -- Interesting. I hope it lasts a little longer than that, but you're probably right. We have an acer netbook for messing around on the internet, but it's not nearly powerful enough for the statistics I have to run. Could get a desktop and remote desktop in though.... something to think about.
