I am "older" an MD-PhD student, and I am obsessed with my dog. I started this program at the age of 29 after working in business and hating it for way too long. Then came the husband, and then the fur-child. Oh, the PhD's in Epidemiology. This blog is about the ups and downs of all of the above.

How people in science see each other
A friend posted this on facebook, and Luca and I thought it was too funny not to post here as well....
Having been a tech at one time...they ARE all spoiled children...I just can't imagine what the PostDoc was thinking when he had me interrupt data analysis to come down to the lab and inject his rat for him...the PI put a stop to that right soon! of course it was HIS data... And then there was the incident of having to remove the grad student's lunches from the refrigerator with the tetrodotoxin....and explaining to them that you don't store your sandwich next to your experiment. (Why couldn't I get a foodsafe fridge for them...? - try explaining that on your grant)
We have this up on the wall in the lab! Having been on four of these 5 levels at some point in my career, I can say that these are a bit stereotyped but true in many many cases (hence the stereotype). Since I'm currently at the post-doc level, I can say that I do see the Eye of Sauron coming when my PI asks "how are things going?"
4 Pearls of Wisdom:
That's hilarious.
I shared it with my EMT-Basic class and we're all cracking up.
Thanks for the laugh!
100% true. My postdoc especially says that postdoc is spot on.
Personally, I like how techs view everyone as spoiled children
